And then there was one. With a win over Hamilton Heights last Friday, North Montgomery advanced to the second round of the football sectional.
The Chargers will travel to Blackford at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Blackford enters the game 7-3 on the season, after defeating Northwestern 51-0 last Friday. After losing their season opener, the Bruins won six straight, before dropping the last two games of the season to Tipton and Mississinewa – both by shutout.
North Montgomery has won two of their last three games, and three of their last five. In those three wins, the Chargers are averaging over 47 points per game.
While the Chargers pose a dual-threat offense, the Bruins average nearly 300 yards of rushing per game, and have five running backs with 500 yards or more.
North Montgomery will have to keep the ball away from Blackford, not turn the ball over, and score on the majority of their possessions if they want to steal a victory and return to the sectional championship for the first time since 2015.
Predictor: North Montgomery 33, Blackford 28
The Chargers are the lone fall team still competing in Montgomery County. Girls’ basketball practice has started, and swimming, wrestling and boys’ basketball are about to go full force in the coming days.
